What is NICE?

NICE guidance helps health and social care professionals deliver the best possible care based on the best available evidence. This guidance supports healthcare professionals and others to make sure that the care they provide is of the best possible quality and offers the best value for money. The guidance is for the NHS, local authorities, charities, and anyone with a responsibility for commissioning or providing healthcare, public health or social care services. We also support these groups in putting our guidance into practice.

As a NED Dr Benneyworth will assist NICE in ensuring the organisation is fulfilling its role in helping the health and social care system provide the highest quality care.

Dr Benneyworth is currently the Managing Director of the South West Academic Health Science Network (AHSN). She has spent many years as a GP principal in Somerset and she currently works for Somerset Doctors Urgent Care Service.

Prior to joining the AHSN, Rosie worked for several years as a clinical commissioner. She was on the Governing Body of Somerset CCG and was the vice-chair of Somerset Health and Wellbeing Board.
Dr Benneyworth has also been a NICE Fellow since 2013, and was a member of the group that developed the NICE guideline on Urinary Incontinence in Women

Commenting on her new role, Dr Benneyworth said: “It is a privilege and an honour to be appointed as Non-Executive Director at NICE. I’m really looking forward to the opportunity this brings in helping NICE achieve its objectives.
“I’m particularly keen on ensuring that the voice of primary care is well represented at NICE.”
Professor David Haslam, Chair of NICE, said: “Many congratulations are due to Rosie who we warmly welcome to the NICE Board.”
“Her extensive front-line experience in primary care and in commissioning will play an invaluable role in ensuring that NICE achieves its aims and goals.”

The NICE Board meets monthly to set and review NICE’s strategic objectives, and is made up of Directors, Executive Directors and NEDs.
